The France proverb says, “Misfortune never comes alone/Singly” .This was tragically evident last Friday when a massive earthquake, measuring 7.7 in magnitude, struck central Myanmar, devastating Mandalay, Sagaing, Naypyidaw, and Taunggyi. The disaster claimed scores of lives, caused the collapse of high-rise buildings and houses, buckled streets, shattered bridges, and destroyed sections of the expressway. The official death toll has risen to over 4600 with over 6000 people injured. Tragically, hundreds remain missing, and many are still trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings, awaiting rescue.
Few Special Prayer Requests for Christian Families out of thousands are:
1. Missionary Tawk Lian serves in Amarapura, Mandalay. His church elder and three friends were killed when the hotel they worked in collapsed. Their bodies are not recovered yet.
2. Missionary Pu Pa Zaar, who serves in Nyaung Shwe, Shan State, reported that two families from his congregation were swept away when their homes were submerged in water. They remain missing. Additionally, in Kela village, near Inlay Lake, approximately 400 houses were destroyed, killing hundreds of people, including many children. Scores remain unaccounted. Enclosed pictures.
3. Pastor Chan Mang, serving in Tat Kone Mission field was struck on the head by a collapsing bricks wall. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and remains unconscious.
4. In every affected region, not only homes and buildings but also numerous church buildings have been destroyed. We urge you to pray for the victims—those enduring deep sorrow and suffering in the wake of this disaster.
JOY IN THE MIDST OF DESPAIR
Despite the natural devastation, acts of kindness have emerged. Many have lost their homes and loved ones, and in this time of despair, UFC fighter Joshua Van (The Fearless Van) has stepped forward, donating MMK 10,000,000 through Chinland Foundation to aid the victims. We extend our deepest gratitude for his generosity and pray for God’s abundant blessings upon him.
Yesterday Rev. Dr. Thawng Tha Thang and his team (Our office staff, teachers, bible students and Chinland Football players) set out from Yangon to assist victims in Mandalay, Tat Kone, and Meiktila.
Due to the damaged highways between Yangon and Mandalay, they were sleeping on the road last night and this morning they pressed forward to their mission (Mandalay). After arriving there, they set up office, store room at the more safety area in Mandalay to bring aid to the victims.
They are now starting their relief work. They reported that thousands of residents in Mandalay are scared to stay at home even at day time and sleep under the roof at night since measuring 5.8 magnitude earthquake continue hitting even today.
Please keep them in your prayers that they may reach out those who are in needs desperately and as “a cold drop of water to the thirst” in this time of crisis.
